What is the correct way to put on an oxygen cannula?
Jul 14, 2024
Double nasal oxygen cannula is usually placed in the nasal cavity with two small tube heads facing upwards. Insert the two small oxygen tube heads into the bilateral nasal cavities respectively, and hang the two side tubes on the auricle along the front of the neck, adjust the snap button to fix it in the mandibular area, and the tightness should be appropriate to two fingers. The tube is connected to the water bottle of the oxygen cylinder and directly receives oxygen therapy.
When double nasal oxygen cannula is used clinically, the depth of insertion into the nasal cavity is shallow, generally not exceeding 3cm, and will not cause discomfort to the patient. If single nostril oxygen is used, nasal plugs or nasal cannula are generally used. When single nasal cannula oxygen is inhaled, coughing and sneezing often cause the single nasal cannula to spray out. Therefore, in order to avoid this phenomenon, the single nasal cannula is generally inserted deeper into the nasal cavity, 4-6cm, and most of them are placed in the nasopharynx. Because the single nasal cannula is inserted deeper, it may cause discomfort to the patient, so double nasal oxygen cannula oxygen inhalation therapy is generally used clinically. Compared with single nasal cannula oxygen inhalation, patients with double nasal cannula oxygen inhalation do not feel discomfort, and the oxygen inhalation is more uniform, and the cannula is easy to fix.
It should be noted that when using double nasal cannula oxygen inhalation, the secretions in the double nasal cannula need to be cleared in time to avoid the double nasal cannula being blocked by nasal secretions, resulting in a decrease in the efficacy of oxygen inhalation.
