How to use a single-sided nasal oxygen cannula?
Jul 14, 2024
Use of a single-sided nasal oxygen cannula:
When using a single-sided nasal cannula for oxygen inhalation, medical staff are required to operate. Before the operation, check whether the patient's nostrils are unobstructed, clean the nostrils with a cotton swab, and prepare adhesive tape. Then connect the nasal cannula to the oxygen cannula, turn on the switch, adjust the oxygen flow, and check whether the nasal cannula is unobstructed.
The single-sided nasal cannula should be gently inserted along the inferior nasal meatus to a depth of 2/3 of the distance between the earlobe and the nose tip (the length measurement operation is generally performed before connecting the nasal cannula and the oxygen cannula). If there is no choking, use adhesive tape to cross-fix the nose and cheek, and then start using oxygen.
Precautions for using a single-sided nasal oxygen cannula
When using a single-sided nasal cannula for oxygen inhalation, attention should be paid to oxygen safety, and the "four preventions" should be done effectively: shockproof, fireproof, heatproof, and oilproof. Try to use disposable nasal cannula, which must be strictly disinfected before use to prevent cross infection. Those who continue to use oxygen should change the nasal cannula 1-2 times a day. When stopping oxygen, the nasal cannula should be removed first, and then the oxygen switch should be turned off.
